Scope before price

ForgeSpan Sourcing quote comparison and document review

ForgeSpan Sourcing lines up alternative quotations. The work is to make each factory answer the same brief. We do not stamp drawings, pull permits or decide which code edition applies. That judgment stays with the buyer and the licensed professionals on the project.

What each quote should echo

  1. Use and occupancy
  2. Module dimensions
  3. Design loads, if known
  4. Code jurisdiction
  5. Quantity
  6. Destination and scope boundary
Specification sheets spread beside a module corner connection

Same question, two scope columns

Read across the row. If one column is blank, the quotes are not ready to compare. This table is a buyer worksheet, not a record of prices we have already received.

Checks we put in front of a factory

  • Reference product

Name the product family you researched, then state that you want alternatives rather than a claim of original supply.

  • Transport envelope

Record road limits, escort needs and the crane lift plan if the unit ships volumetric.

  • Thermal and fire notes

Ask for the offered insulation and fire-resistance rating only as supplier statements to verify, not as site approval.

  • Documents

Request drawings, calculations and any cited standard for the exact system being quoted. A homepage mark is not evidence.

  • Commercial lines

Keep currency, Incoterms or domestic delivery basis, lead time and exclusions in writing. Optional budget can be per unit or for the whole order.

  • Open points

List engineering, permitting and site work that nobody has accepted yet. An open point is not a defect in the brief; it is a reason to pause.

When the format itself is still undecided, the offsite methods page separates volumetric, panelized and foldable paths. Product wording lives on building options.

Questions buyers ask before the first call

Can you obtain the original brand?

No. The service compares alternative products. A brand name in the search is context for the requirement, not an order for that brand.

Do you already know the price?

No published rate on this site is a factory quote. Numbers appear only after a supplier prices the same specification, quantity, destination and scope.

Which code will you pre-approve?

None. IBC, IRC, HUD Code, ASCE 7, AISC 360 and AWS D1.1 are references a project may need to check. Compliance depends on location, loads and the documents supplied with the quote.

What if two quotes use different steel?

Record hot-rolled steel or cold-formed steel as a deviation. Do not average the prices until the buyer accepts the substitution.

Put the exclusions in the same note as the wish list

A complete note is more useful than a low headline number. Include destination, requested delivery timing and the scope you want priced.
